March 2026 Update

Black box theater set with hanging semi transparent screens with images of trees

Yesterday, I spent a good portion of the day in the Lost Nation Theatre space at City Hall* in Montpelier preparing Forest's part of the tech for the Opening Celebration on Friday, March 13 from 5-7.

The above snapshot was taken as the last two beautiful panels by Andy Wasserman were going into place - 3 people on the catwalk, Andy and I down below to locate them.

Then Jude Domski, who created the film from the footage she shot in September, 2025, started to project the film on both the movie screen and the silk panels of trees and it created the magical environment we had all been imagining. (The snapshot pales in comparison with the actual visual impact of cloth, film and dancers, but you get the idea.)

Tomorrow, I go into the studio with 5 dancers to shape their part in Forest on stage. We will be joined by Koa Ritz, the new composer and band leader for Forest who will be performing with the dancers on the 13th. (see photo below)

Those of you who can, please come. The evening is free and a celebration of the 25 years of Green Mt Film Festival. We will be sharing the end of the evening with a sweet, intimate film called Heaven & Earth

It is also an important, community gathering, a coming together to honor art in this trying and difficult time.

Here is a link to the schedule of wonderful films.
Here is a link to the WCAX interview with Sam Kann, GMFF's programmer, a Middlebury graduate and dancer with deep Vermont roots.

* Sadly, City Hall's elevator has not been in service since the last flood, so there are stairs to navigate to arrive at the Celebration.
